AI agents help physicists find new exact solutions for fusion magnetic fields in hours
Fusion devices use magnetic fields to hold superheated plasma, and scientists check their simulation software against rare exact mathematical solutions. As TechRadar reports, a team including Opal Issan, Jonathan Citrin, Matt Landreman and Brendan Tracey used Google’s Gemini 4 Argon, running as multiple agents in the Antigravity environment, to extend earlier solutions that had challenged a 1967 conjecture by physicist Harold Grad. The agents found a way to break a symmetry the earlier solutions shared, and promising candidates appeared within hours. The researchers still verified the math themselves. It does not solve fusion, but it gives the field new reference cases for testing the codes used to design future reactors.
